AutoWallis to be granted Nissan distribution rights in Romania in cooperation with a major player on the European automotive market

AutoWallis Group is to obtain distribution rights for Nissan in Romania together with a major player on the European automotive market, the Portuguese Salvador Caetano Group, as the new national importer for the brand. This transaction is subject to the approval of the relevant competition authorities. The start of operations of the new company is scheduled for June 1st, 2025.
AutoWallis Group, the leading car trading and mobility service company of the Central and Eastern European region has agreed on yet another substantial acquisition after having concluded an agreement with Nissan Europe and the Portuguese Salvador Caetano Group. Under the deal, AutoWallis Caetano Ltd. (where the joint venture parties each hold a 50% stake) is to acquire exclusive Nissan distribution rights in Romania. As a result, the two vehicle sales and mobility service provision companies will gain equal shares in the new operation, providing regulatory conditions are met. The start of operations of the new organisation is scheduled for June 1st, 2025.

He added that while this is the third common venture between the Hungarian and Portuguese companies (AutoWallis and Caetano Group joint ventures companies hold the importer rights of Renault, Dacia and Alpine in Hungary, and own a Renault and Dacia retail unit in Budapest), AutoWallis will continue its independent growth, developments, acquisitions, and the implementation of its strategy in other areas.

Welcoming the transaction, head of AutoWallis’ Distribution Business Unit, Pál Bihari, said that Nissan is a significant player of the automotive industry, recognised for its innovation and commitment to sustainability. He added that Nissan is at the forefront of new technology development and a pioneer of electric vehicles, and it will be a privilege to represent the brand in Romania.
AutoWallis is already present in 16 countries in the region, representing 27 brands, while the Portuguese Salvador Caetano has significant experience in vehicle sales primarily on the Iberian Peninsula, in Scandinavia, and in South America and Africa.
